Practicum

Practicum:

The practicum serves as the practical component of the program, allowing students to apply their newly acquired skills in a real-world work setting. It is a critical phase where students have the opportunity to gain practical experience, enhance self-confidence, and potentially receive offers of employment. The practicum consolidates the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program.

Knowledge Core Competency Objectives:

  1. State the importance of developing a reflective practice through keeping a daily journal of practicum experiences.
  2. Explain the value of each practicum assignment and experience and how it is used to evaluate practices and decisions.
  3. Explain the value of constructive criticism from others and how to incorporate useful information into personal practice.

Skill Core Competency Objectives:

  1. Be accountable and make corrections if appropriate; be prepared to explain decisions and actions.
  2. Demonstrate a willingness to learn from others—co-workers and supervisors.
  3. Reflect and assess with a view to transferring skills to other situations.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to adapt skills to address new situations; reflect and evaluate adaptations.

Upon completing the practicum, students are expected to have not only applied their theoretical knowledge and skills in a practical setting but also developed reflective practices, accountability, adaptability, and a willingness to learn from others. The practicum serves as a comprehensive evaluation of the program’s learning outcomes.
