CCNA Security:

This subject is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to secure a Cisco network, develop a security infrastructure, recognize threats and vulnerabilities, and mitigate security risks. The focus is on using Cisco IOS security features, accessible through web-based GUIs on the Cisco ASA and the command-line interface (CLI) on Cisco routers and switches.

Knowledge Core Competency Objectives:

  1. Describe how to install, operate, configure, and verify a basic IPv4 and IPv6 network.
  2. State how to configure a LAN switch and an IP router.
  3. List the concepts of managing network devices.
  4. List the concepts of designing, implementing, and monitoring a comprehensive security policy using Cisco IOS security features and technologies.
  5. Explain how to deploy basic firewalling services.
  6. List the concepts of security controls for Cisco IOS devices.
  7. Describe how to secure a network using Cisco IOS security features.

Skill Core Competency Objectives:

  1. Develop a working knowledge of network security principles, tools, and configurations.
  2. Establish Internet connectivity.
  3. Manage and secure network devices.
  4. Expand small- to medium-sized networks.
  5. Secure routing and switching infrastructure.
  6. Deploy basic authentication, authorization, and accounting services.
  7. Deploy basic site-to-site and remote access VPN services.
  8. Develop a comprehensive network security policy to counter threats against information security.
  9. Configure routers with Cisco IOS software security features, including management and reporting functions.
  10. Configure the Cisco ASA Firewall for remote access to a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) VPN.
  11. Configure a Cisco IOS zone-based firewall (ZBF) to perform basic security operations on a network.
  12. Configure site-to-site VPNs using Cisco IOS features.
  13. Implement line passwords and enable passwords and secrets.

Upon completing this subject, students are expected to possess both the knowledge and practical skills to work effectively with Cisco IOS security features, ensuring the safety and security of a network.
