This subject introduces students to the fundamentals of make-up artistry, providing a strong foundation to create various looks. Students learn about color theory, determining facial shapes and features, and the theory behind corrective techniques. The focus is on basic make-up theory, techniques, tools, products, and client consultations to determine needs and expectations.

Knowledge Core Competency Objectives: Upon completion of this subject, a student is expected to recall issues related to the setup of an esthetics area, facial treatments and massage, facial machines, hair removal, and the makeup process.

  1. Discuss how to set up a treatment room that creates a professional atmosphere.
  2. Perform facial treatments on different skin types and conditions.
  3. Summarize the steps required for a facial massage.
  4. Discuss how to select facial machines specific to the salon’s needs.
  5. Recall the methods and products required for an efficient hair removal process.
  6. Describe the applications for advanced treatments.
  7. Discuss facial make-up products, formulations, and techniques.
  8. List the steps on how to apply cosmetic and special effects makeup using correct procedures and precautions while supporting client needs.
  9. Discuss the importance of adhering to Occupational Health and Safety, sanitation, and infection prevention/control protocols in keeping with current industry standards.

Skill Core Competency Objectives: Upon completion of this subject, a student is expected to be able to perform a variety of specialized body and skin care treatments following correct procedures and precautions, supporting client needs, including facials, hair removal, and makeup applications.
