Occupational Health and Safety:
In this subject, students will gain a solid understanding of health and safety issues, legislation, and systems to create an effective occupational health and safety program in the Ontario workforce.
Knowledge Core Competency: Upon completion of this subject, a student is expected to discuss the values of health and safety issues in the workforce.
Objectives:
- State the major Stakeholder Duties and Responsibilities when enforcing health and safety issues.
- Explain the Workers’ Compensation process in Ontario.
- List some of the major Types of Injuries and Illnesses present in the workforce.
- List the major physical agents found in the Workplace.
- Define biohazards and chemical agents.
- Define workplace aggression and violence.
- List the benefits of occupational health and safety training.
- Define workplace aggression and violence.
- List the emergency preparedness and planning topics.

- Use legislative compliance for safety requirements.
- Participate in joint health and safety committees.
- Adopt and use medical aid and incident prevention policies.
- Prepare risk assessment and hazard assessment reports.
- Be able to effectively control biohazards and chemical agents.
- Recognize, assess, and manage psychosocial hazards.
- Promote sexual harassment as a health and safety issue.
- Promote and participate in Health and Safety Training Programs.
- Prepare reports on incident investigations.
- Assess disability management programs.
