Landscaping:

In this subject, students will receive a solid foundation in three areas of modern professional practice: landscape design, contracting, and management. The subject will begin with an overview of landscape design principles and processes and then explore contracting, installation, maintenance, and professional specialization.

Knowledge Core Competency: Upon completing this subject, a student is expected to recite the basic concepts of landscape design, contracting, and management.

Objectives:

Provide an overview of landscape design. Explain the landscape design process. Discuss the landscape installation process. Discuss the landscape maintenance process. Talk about the uses and limitations of flowers in the landscape. Differentiate between an estimate and a bid. Prepare a bid for a landscape design and installation project. Explain the importance of contracts before starting a landscaping project.

Skill Core Competency: Upon completion of this subject, a student is expected to be able to deal with contractors, landscape installation, and landscape maintenance.

Objectives:

Demonstrate an understanding of landscape design components. Determine the client’s needs and desires. Create a functional and aesthetically pleasing landscape plan. Select proper plants for the project at hand. Select plant materials for the landscape. Plan for xeriscaping and soil erosion control. Perform landscape calculations to determine proper quantities of supplies. Prepare contracts for landscaping projects.
