Purpose
Definitions
Transfer Credit: the recognition of previous academic work completed at the College and/or other Recognized Institutions.
Advanced Standing/Block Transfer: The granting of a block of credit for the completion of a group of courses typically based on the completion of an approved credential or full program, from CACC or another institution.
Articulation: The process of assessing programs or courses offered at other institutions to determine whether to grant credit towards the earning of a CACC post-secondary credential. Articulation is therefore the process, while Block Transfer Credit or Transfer Credit is the result.
Articulation Agreement: A formally recognized agreement between the College and a sending institution that specifies the number of Transfer Credits awarded towards the earning of a CACC post-secondary credential.
Course Equivalency: The granting of course credit for the successful completion of an equivalent course at CACC.
Course Exemption: The granting of course credit for the recognition of knowledge, skills, or abilities that are demonstrated and/ or assessed via assessment measures that are administered by or approved by the College (e.g. Admission or Placement Testing, etc.)
Grouped Credit: The credit awarded when two or more courses must be combined to obtain Transfer Credit.
Recognized Institutions: The College considers the following as “recognized” for evaluating Transfer Credit:
- Canadian public post-secondary institutions
- Universities in Canada
- Private Career Colleges in Canada
- International institutions recognized in their country, as determined by CACC through the Ministries of Education of that country
- The Office of the Vice President, Academic, may approve credits obtained from any institution or organization that does not meet the above criteria upon consultation with the Director, Operations and at the request of the appropriate faculty member.
Application/ Scope
Eligibility
To be eligible for advanced academic standing, students must meet the following
criteria:
Be admitted to a program at Canadian All Care College.
Provide verifiable documentation of prior learning, such as transcripts, course descriptions,
work experience, or professional certifications.
5. Application Process
5.1. Initial Consultation: Prospective students should consult with an academic advisor to
discuss their eligibility for advanced academic standing.
5.2. Submission of Application: Students must submit a formal application for advanced
academic standing, including:
A completed PLAR application form.
Official transcripts from recognized institutions.
Detailed course outlines or syllabi.
Documentation of relevant work experience, including job descriptions and letters from
employers.
Copies of relevant certifications or licenses.
5.3. Assessment: The application will be assessed by a designated PLAR committee, which
includes faculty members with expertise in the relevant subject areas. The committee will
evaluate the submitted materials based on established criteria.
6. Assessment Criteria
The following criteria will be used to assess applications for advanced academic
standing:
Relevance: The prior learning must be directly applicable to the learning outcomes of the
course or program.
Level: The prior learning must be at a comparable level to the course for which credit is
sought.
Currency: The prior learning must be recent enough to remain relevant to current industry standards and practices.
Equivalence: The prior learning must be equivalent in depth and breadth to the content
covered in the course or program.
7. Notification and Appeals
7.1. Notification: Students will be notified of the assessment outcome in writing within 4-6
weeks of submitting their application.
7.2. Appeals: Students who wish to appeal the assessment decision must submit a written
appeal within 30 days of receiving the decision. The appeal will be reviewed by an
independent appeals committee, and the student will be notified of the outcome within 4-6
weeks.
8. Limitations
A maximum of 50% of the program credits may be awarded through advanced academic
standing.
Advanced academic standing cannot be granted for capstone projects, internships, or other
experiential learning components of the program.
9. Record Keeping
All documentation related to applications for advanced academic standing, including
assessments and decisions, will be retained in the student’s academic file for a minimum of 5
years following the student’s graduation or last date of attendance.
10. Review and Revision
This policy will be reviewed and revised as necessary every 2 years to ensure its continued
relevance and alignment with best practices in higher education.
CACC will provide training and resources to employees and individuals associated with the organization to ensure compliance with this policy. CACC will periodically review and update this policy to ensure its continued relevance and compliance with applicable
laws and regulations. Failure to comply with the policy may result in disciplinary action in accordance with CACC`s procedures and applicable laws. In case of any disputes, updated printed copies of CACC policies will take precedence over the policies published on our website.
