Canadian All Care College hosted a workshop on “Digital Wellness: Managing Screen Time and Social Media,” led by Harmony Adzido. The session brought together students from multiple classes to explore one of today’s most relevant challenges—maintaining a healthy relationship with technology.

Understanding Digital Wellness
The workshop introduced digital wellness as the intentional and mindful use of technology. Rather than encouraging disconnection, the focus was on balance and awareness.
Students learned that digital wellness involves:
- Understanding how and why devices are used
- Making conscious decisions about screen time
- Aligning digital habits with personal values
This perspective helped shift the focus from simply reducing usage to building healthier, more purposeful habits.

Reflecting on Daily Habits
Students reflected on their everyday routines, particularly phone use in the morning. Many recognized that immediately checking their phones can lead to stress and distraction.
This exercise encouraged students to evaluate whether their habits support their well-being or negatively impact their energy and focus.
Effects of Screen Time
The session explored how excessive screen time can impact well-being. Key concerns included:
- Increased stress, anxiety, and emotional fatigue
- Disrupted sleep from late-night device use
- Reduced focus and academic performance
- Weakened in-person connections
At the same time, the workshop acknowledged the benefits of technology for communication, learning, and productivity. The central message: technology is not the problem—it is how it is used.
Interactive Learning
Students participated in activities such as reviewing their personal screen time data, which provided insight into their usage patterns. Many were surprised by the amount of time spent on certain apps.
Real-life scenarios were also discussed, including:
- Difficulty concentrating due to phone interruptions
- Staying up late scrolling
- Social comparison affecting self-esteem
These discussions highlighted that such challenges are common and often linked to habits and emotional needs.

Practical Strategies
The workshop emphasized simple, actionable strategies to build healthier habits:
- Turning off non-essential notifications
- Setting boundaries for device use during study and before sleep
- Keeping phones out of reach to improve focus
- Replacing passive scrolling with intentional activities
- Using app timers to manage screen time
Students also learned how digital platforms are designed to capture attention, helping them better understand their behavior.
Personal Digital Wellness Plans
Students created personalized plans to apply what they learned. Each plan included:
- One habit to change
- One boundary to set
- One alternative activity
- Strategies to overcome challenges
This approach encouraged small, realistic, and sustainable changes.

Inclusive Approach
The workshop recognized that technology plays an essential role in many students’ lives, including communication, safety, and access to services.
A compassionate, non-judgmental approach was emphasized. Digital wellness was framed as balance and self-awareness rather than strict rules.

Key Takeaway
The workshop concluded with a clear message:
Digital wellness is about progress, not perfection.
Students were encouraged to make small, meaningful changes—such as reducing notifications or creating phone-free time—to improve their well-being, focus, and overall quality of life.
Canadian All Care College thanks Harmony Adzido and all participating students for making the session impactful and engaging.
